These terms govern your use of yamo.travel, the Yamo traveller app, Agency OS and Yamo HQ (together, "Yamo"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. Please read them together with our privacy policy.
1. What Yamo is
Yamo is a travel journal and a marketplace. The journal is yours: countries, stamps, photos, notes. The marketplace lists group trips run by independent travel agencies and lets you request tailored trips that Yamo HQ routes to one of those agencies. Yamo is not a travel agency, tour operator or payment processor. When you join a trip, your contract for that trip is with the agency that runs it.
2. Accounts
You must be 18 or older to hold an account. Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens under it. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put other people at risk.
3. Trips, bookings and payments
- Trip descriptions, itineraries, inclusions, prices, deposits, cancellation terms and payment plans are written by the agency and are the agency's responsibility. Read them before you request spots.
- A join request is a request; the agency decides whether to approve it. Spots you request for friends are held under your booking and become theirs when they join Yamo.
- Payments are made to the agency, on the terms in its trip pack. Yamo does not hold your money and does not issue refunds for trips. Disputes about a trip, its delivery or its refunds are between you and the agency; Yamo HQ may help mediate but does not guarantee an outcome.
- Travel documents, visas, vaccinations, insurance and fitness to travel are your responsibility. We strongly recommend travel insurance.
4. Ask Yamo and website conversations
Ask Yamo uses an AI assistant to gather a brief for a tailored trip. Proposals come from agencies, not from the assistant, and nothing is booked until you accept a proposal with the agency. When you leave a WhatsApp number or email on the website, you are asking Yamo HQ to contact you about that trip; you can stop the conversation at any time.
5. Your content
You own what you put in your journal. You give Yamo a licence to store, display and process it to run the service, and to show it to the people you choose (friends, trip mates, anyone with a link you share). Do not upload content you do not have the right to share, that identifies other people without their consent, or that is unlawful, hateful or harmful. Passport scans are used only to read stamps and are not stored.
6. Agencies
Agencies use Agency OS under a separate plan agreement with Yamo. An agency warrants that it is legally entitled to sell the trips it lists, that its listings are accurate, and that it will honour the terms it publishes. Yamo HQ verifies agencies before they can list trips but does not audit every trip. Yamo may remove listings or suspend agencies that break these terms.
7. Acceptable use
Do not scrape, overload, reverse-engineer or interfere with the service; do not impersonate others; do not use Yamo to send spam or to collect other users' details; do not attempt to bypass the rate limits or security measures we run.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep Yamo available but do not promise uninterrupted service. We may change features, and we may stop offering the service with reasonable notice. If we stop, we will give you a way to export your journal.
9. Liability
Yamo provides the service "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, Yamo is not liable for losses arising from a trip run by an agency, from your reliance on trip information written by an agency, from travel disruption, or for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under South African consumer law, including the Consumer Protection Act.
10. Ending your account
You may delete your account at any time from your profile. Bookings already made with an agency continue under that agency's terms. We may keep records we are legally required to keep.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction, without prejudice to consumer protections you enjoy where you live.
